What is the English Conversation Program?
The English Conversation Program (ECP) is a short, one to two-week program for any educators (teachers, vice principals, and principals) in any kindergarten, elementary, middle, or high school in Gyeonggi Province who want to improve their English skills. The goals of the program are to enhance English language skills by learning about different topics, cultivate cultural knowledge of English-speaking countries, and, of course, to develop motivation and interest to further study English.
This year, we’ll have a few different rounds of ECP – the first takes place from April to August, and the second one will be from September to December.
What kind of courses do you offer in the ECP?
So far this year, we’ve not finalized the curriculum for 2022. However, to get an idea of what we offer, below you can check out what we had during 2021 and see if it piques your interest.
Beginner Level Class: Interaction of the Week
In the beginner-level class, trainees will learn the basics of English conversation and interaction from experienced educators Elizabeth and Eric. Trainees will go from giving basic introductions all the way to giving opinions. Along the way they’ll talk about weather and sports, give directions, and order food from cafes and restaurants.
Intermediate Level Classes: Small Talk and American Culture or Book Club
American Culture and Small Talk
Trainees will learn about authentic American culture from our authentically American GIFLE instructors Betsey and Autumn, with topics ranging from the Superbowl to how to act at work parties. They’ll also learn the appropriate vocabulary and grammar for those (and many more!) situations, as well as how to engage in natural-sounding small talk.
In the advanced-level class, trainees will participate in book club discussions and literature circles facilitated by resident GIFLE instructor, Angie Lee. Trainees will choose one of the following books:
- The Giver: The Graphic Novel
- Anne of Green Gables: The Graphic Novel
- The Martian
Participants of this class will increase speaking fluency as they develop their literary proficiency in English.
Advanced Level Class: Current Events and Contemporary Issues
In the advanced level class, trainees will explore deep topics and relevant issues. They will then discuss their opinions, as well as gain new insights provided by the course content.
For the time being, all of our ECP classes are currently full! We will update when classes become available again both here and on social media.
